Brand Design
Part of the complete rebrand of The Calcot Collection, an eclectic group of luxury country house hotels, spas, restaurants and inns across the Cotswolds and Northumberland.
The Painswick is an 18th-century Palladian-style boutique hotel and restaurant in the historic village of Painswick, known as the ‘Queen of the Cotswolds’ for its winding streets, honey-coloured stone buildings and picturesque setting. Surrounded by rolling hills and wooded valleys, the area has a rich heritage shaped by the wool trade, with historic mills scattered throughout the surrounding landscape.
Small, stylish and deliberately unstuffy, the hotel combines individually designed rooms and sweeping valley views with relaxed, seasonal dining centred around locally sourced ingredients.
Considered the hip little sister of the Calcot Collection, The Painswick called for a brand with a more playful and irreverent character. The identity centres around George the sheep, the hotel’s unofficial mascot and a nod to the area’s wool-trading heritage. This created a distinctive personality that could be carried through every aspect of the guest experience, from digital communications and responsive websites to printed collateral such as brochures, menus, wine lists, signage and on-property materials.
Creative direction also encompassed brand photography and videography, social media imagery and ongoing content, alongside an extensive range of high-end print including brochures, books, menus, wine lists, signage and internal communications.
